Alice In Chains, "Black Gives Way to Blue"

13 Oct 2009 | by Carey Cliven
After long years of silence, the rock band Alice in Chains returns releasing its new album. "Black Gives Way to Blue" is the fourth studio album of the group. It is also the first work recorded with new vocalist William DuVall enticed to swap the preceding band’s singer Layne Staley. New vocal line sounds rather like Staley’s voice corresponding with Alice in Chains’ habitual rhythms and cadence. In spite of 14 years break and replacement in the group, the 11- track set strikingly extends and completes the previous work "Alice in Chains" (2005) without changing its present familiar sounding. Almost all of songs on the album were written by band’s lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who also plays the role of backing and co-lead vocalist. As a tribute for Layne Staley was written album’s closing title track "Black Gives Way to Blue" which features the piano accompanying by Elton John. The remarkable thing is that Alice in Chains has not changed its style of sounding.
